Ordering ice cream packaging from abroad: export guide

Gepako ships cone sleeves, ice cream cups, tubs, boxes and service items abroad as well; shipping goes by air or sea. Ordering from abroad differs from a domestic order at a few points: delivery terms, container calculation and documents. This guide takes the steps in order. Our current export terms are shown in the export section of the English and Arabic site.

How to request a quote

The Quick Quote form asks for your country, city and delivery address; you write your phone number with the country code. You choose products with their size or type option and approximate quantity; several products are gathered in one request. Your request receives a number and a PDF copy is sent to you. Export quotes are prepared in English; the delivery terms and shipping method are stated clearly in the quote.

Incoterms: what do the delivery terms mean?

Incoterms are the international rules that define where the goods are handed over and which cost belongs to whom. There are different options from ex-works to the port of arrival; in each option freight, insurance and customs responsibility sit with a different party. The delivery terms Gepako works with are listed in the export section and stated clearly in your quote; reading the abbreviation tells you up to which point the price applies.

Container calculation

Packaging is a light but bulky cargo; at sea, cost is driven by volume rather than weight. So before ordering it matters to know how many cartons, how many pallets and which container will be filled. Our container calculator shows, as soon as you pick a product and quantity, the number of cartons, the volume, the number of pallets and the suggested container; it also adds how many more pieces of each product fit in the remaining space.

When the calculation is done you can request a quote from the same page: the items and the load summary are attached to your request. The calculator lists only products with carton data entered; the exact pallet calculation is given in the quote.

Documents and payment

In export, the invoice and packing list are prepared for every shipment; the certificate of origin and product documents vary by country and product. Which documents we provide, the payment terms and the loading port are listed in the export section and confirmed in your quote. Customs and import obligations depend on the rules of the destination country; your importer or customs broker knows that part, and we prepare the required documents.

How printing and proofing work remotely

For custom printing the process is the same as domestically: you send your logo, our design team prepares it for print, the proof appears in English on your order tracking page, and you approve it or request changes. Production starts with your approval; when the cartons are ready, the shipping details are added to the same page. Before printing, you can see your products in 3D on the See Your Logo page.

Shipping

Sea freight is chosen for bulky, planned orders and air freight for urgent, small loads. Cartons are palletised and loaded into the container; depending on the delivery terms, delivery is made to the port or to your address. The lead time depends on the product, the printing and the shipping method; current information is in the export section and in your quote.
